We don’t just train your dog. We start by building your relationship.

Georgina in the Fairlight Dog Training Field in Tickenham

At Fairlight Dog Training & Behaviour, we start somewhere most training doesn’t: your relationship with your dog. Because that’s where everything else comes from. Good recall, calm lead walking, a dog that actually wants to listen – none of it is really about drills or commands.

It’s about the two of you understanding each other.

Based on private training fields in Tickenham, Fairlight Dog Training works with puppies, adolescent dogs and companion gundogs (mostly the Labradors and spaniels this corner of North Somerset is full of) using kind, science-based, force-free methods. The dog always comes first here, not a version of the dog you wish you had. The one right in front of you.

So much of what we do is helping guardians and dogs learn to exist happily in a busy dog-filled world – something a lot of lovely dogs were simply never taught. Get the relationship right, and the rest follows.

Sound familiar?

You love your dog to bits but lately, walks have started to feel like hard work. The recall you used to rely on has vanished now they’ve hit adolescence. They pull like a train the moment you’re out the door. Every dog, every person, is impossibly exciting.

Round here, that’s more common than you’d think. There are more dogs about than ever, and most were never shown how to stay calm among them. It’s rarely the dog’s fault, and it’s never something to be ashamed of.

The good news: this is fixable, and it’s often quicker than you’d expect.

With the right help, walks become something you look forward to again. A dog who checks in with you, comes back when called, and can simply enjoy being out in the world alongside you are all totally possible.

Attended Georgina's Gun Dog Games on 5th July. It was a really fun event, well organised and a very welcoming atmosphere. Our dog enjoyed it even more than we did! Looking forward to the next one.

What an amazing trainer Georgie is. Her patience persistence and professionalism is amazing and the difference she has made to my dog in just a single session is extraordinary! Anyone who needs 1:1 Gondor training would be hard fetched to find someone better in this region. She also runs the most fun group sessions for all stages and abilities!

Can highly recommend Georgina for 1-1 or group training. We’ve had several sessions with our ‘easily distracted’ cocker spaniel puppy and love that Georgina is so flexible and adapts her approach depending on how things are progressing during the session. So we always leave feeling positive because we’ve trained in areas which have played to our pup’s strengths, alongside working on the things she finds harder. Plus it’s lots of fun so our pup always has a blast.

I’ve known George for the best part of 20 years (sorry George to make us feel old). Only in the last few months have we got our first Labrador and the first person we went to even before we got him was George for advice. So here we are 3 months in to our training and I have learnt so much from George. She has given me confidence when I’ve been concerned that it isn’t going as planned she has given in sight into how our pups mind works and because of that our dog is thriving and I’ve just announced to my wife that I’m going to speak about doing gundog training with him. So if I’m asked to recommend a dog trainer George is the only person I recommend. She has helped me and my family build a fantastic dog who will be my faithful companion for ever more. Keep up the hard work.

I started my training journey with Georgina late last year when I first brought Magic home. We attended her puppy course first which was amazing, very informative and covered a lot of essential skills to help Magic grow into the confident 1 year old she is! We now regularly participate in the gun dog training workshops which are always fun and we have learnt so much from. Georgina is so supportive and makes you feel comfortable and always seems to find a way to make task easier with adaptions to help you and your dog do your best! Magic definitely agrees as she spends the whole walk from the car to the field barking with excitement!

Going to gundog sessions with Georgina for the past year or so completely transformed our hyperactive Sproodle from being unable to concentrate on anything and constantly on lead around other dogs, to following strings of commands and directions while offlead with easy access to the dogs around him. Such a notable difference both on walks and in the home, and he always comes back from sessions thoroughly tired out from all the mental stimulation. Georgina was also kind enough to help us during some noise sensitivity training and offered kind and supportive advice. Would recommend her classes and sessions to anyone who wants to enjoy some time with their dog in a supportive and fun environment!

Great experience at gundog training and good manners workshop! Such great, patient support with my slightly loopy teen dog!

How I can help

Whether you’re starting out with a new puppy, working through the adolescent wobbles one-to-one, or channelling your dog’s natural instincts in a companion gundog group, everything I offer comes back to the same thing:

A calmer, more confident dog, and a stronger relationship between the two of you.

Here’s where to start.

puppy

1:1 Training

Private sessions for puppies, rescue and adult dogs, one-to-one on the training field. The best place to start when you want individual help around you and your dog.

dog 5

group workshops

Periodic sessions for the life and social skills your dog is always developing. No course to commit to; just book on for whichever session suits you and your dog.
dog 2

companion gundog

Group sessions for spaniels, labradors and all breeds to channel your dog’s natural instinct with games and focus-and-engagement work.

Building better relationships

“Georgina is a fantastic trainer and the most inclusive I have ever found.

My adopted boy has a few issues, but we joined the gun dog training. When I struggled with him reacting she steps in to help but also ensures he gets as much out of the training as all the other dogs. She effortlessly adapts the class to suit every dog, which is amazing and not found at most other dog training.

The facilities are also awesome, and you feel able to really focus on what you are there to do. I never come away feeling upset on how reactive my dog has been but instead feel great that he has been included and had a great time.

Thank you so much i really do enjoy the classes and so does Harri “

Your dog’s own private training ground

Most dog training happens in a car park, a village hall, or a field full of distractions you can’t control. Fairlight is different, here we have private, secure fields with the space and the calm to let your dog actually learn.

We’re ideally located if you live in Nailsea, Clevedon, Portishead, Yatton, Failand, Backwell, Congresbury, Weston-Super-Mare, Long Ashton or Wraxhall

A dedicated fun field with a sensory area to explore, play and build confidence at their own pace

Lavender planting for dogs who find the world a bit much which is naturally calming, right where they need it

A gundog training field with the grass cut into lanes, so dogs and owners can see the straight lines they’re working in

A scurry course for building drive and focus, the fun way

An all-weather shelter, so a drop of rain never stops play

It’s a safe, controlled, genuinely enriching space and it’s yours to train in, one dog and one guardian at a time, or attend classes in a safe space.

George, Professional and Qualified Positive Dog Trainer Founder of Fairlight Dog Training Tickenham

Meet George

There’s a genuine person behind Fairlight Dog Training, not someone who decided to become a dog trainer overnight.

It started with Max, my rescue lurcher, and a behaviour problem I didn’t understand but was determined to help him through. That set me off to study, qualify, and build a way of working that puts the dog first, every time.

Ten years on, the words my clients use most are knowledgeable, kind, and – the one that matters most to me – non-judgemental.

Because we’ve all had the difficult days. You’re here trying to make life better for your dog, and there’s nothing better than that.

HAPPY LAB
